Supporting the Global War on Terrorism: Iraq and Afghanistan
Iraq
During Operation Iraqi Freedom, members of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have provided and continue to provide engineering and technical assistance to the U.S. Agency for International Aid, the U.S. Central Command, the Department of Defense Office of Reconstruction and Humanitarian Assistance and the U.S. State Department with reconstruction efforts.
|
More than 55 of these individuals, all civilians and 10 more than once, have been with the St. Paul District. Our personnel have specifically worked on the renovation of Iraqi schools and the ongoing effort to rebuild the Iraqi water and power infrasturcture. Three military officials assigned to the St. Paul District have deployed to Iraq, with one of the going twice.
|
We are once again being reminded how important the Corps' peacetime civil works and military construction missions are in providing a cadre of well trained, versatile professionals who can quickly mobilize in both peacetime and wartime emergencies.
