Olympic athletes are selected by their country's Olympic
Committee, which acts in accordance with international rules governing
individual sports and eligibility. These rules are written and administered
by international sports federations, some of which allow professional
athletes to participate, while others do not. These federations,
in turn, have subsidiary organizations in every country which sends
athletes in that sport to compete on an international level. The
names and addresses of many of these, in addition to names and addresses
of IOC members, may be found in Olympic Movement Directory
= Repertoire du Mouvement Olympique (LC call number
GV721.3.I58b). Both the Encyclopedia of Associations
(LC call number AS8.E53) and its International Organizations
volume should prove useful in locating groups not found in the Olympic
Movement Directory. If a specific entry is not found, a related
organization might be able to provide the information needed.
Directories in Print (LC call number Z5771.D55)
contains many sports entries. Directories of associations in individual
countries may be located by searching the catalogs following this
example: ASSOCIATIONS--CANADA--DIRECTORIES.
