Wild Horses and Burros Offered for Adoption in San Jose

Mustangs fresh from the range will be on display April 26 in San Jose when the Bureau of Land Management offers wild horses and burros for adoption.

The BLM will offer 30 horses ranging in age from under 1 to about 5, along with 10 burros at an adoption at the Santa Clara County Horsemen’s Association, 20350 McKean Road.  The event runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The adoption event opens with an hour of silent bidding beginning at 9 a.m.  Animals not taken during bidding will be available for a $125 adoption fee. All animals must be taken from the facility by shortly after 5 p.m. on April 26. Anyone interested can preview the animals when they arrive at the fairgrounds at about 4 p.m. April 25.

"Spring is here and the timing is right to begin training an adopted mustang or burro," said Doug Satica, facility manager at BLM’s Litchfield corrals.

The horses came from herds in northwest Nevada and northeast California. Burros were gathered from herds in southern Nevada and California.
