Explanation: This graph shows the percentage of U.S. adults aged 20 years or older who had diabetes in the year 2005. The percentage of adults with diabetes was 2.4% among those aged 20-39 years, 10.1% among those aged 40-59 years, and 20.9% among those aged 60 years and older.

Explanation: This graph compares the age-adjusted prevalence of diabetes among U.S. adults aged 20 years or older by race and ethnicity. In the year 2005, the age-adjusted prevalence of diabetes was 17.9% among American Indians and Alaska Natives, 14.8% among non-Hispanic blacks, 13.7% among Hispanic/Latino Americans, and 8% among non-Hispanic whites.

Explanation: This graph displays the number of new cases of diagnosed diabetes among U.S. adults aged 20 years or older. In the year 2005, there were about 202,000  new cases among people aged 20-39 years; 727,000 new cases among people aged 40-59 years; and 575,000 among people aged 60 years and older.

Graph title: Treatment with insulin or oral medications among adults with diagnosed diabetes—United States, 2001–2003
Explanation: This graph displays the distribution of insulin and oral medication treatment among U.S. adults aged 20 years or older with diagnosed diabetes in 2001–2003. Fifty-seven percent were treated with only oral medication, 12% received insulin and oral medication, 16% received only insulin, and 15% received neither oral medication nor insulin.
