Personnel Announcement

President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate one individual and designate one individual to serve in his Administration.

The President intends to nominate Jonathan R. Scharfen, of Virginia, to be Director of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services at the Department of Homeland Security. Mr. Scharfen currently serves as the Acting Director and Deputy Director of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service. Prior to this, he served as the Chief Counsel and Deputy Staff Director of the House International Relations Committee. He retired as a United States Marine Colonel in 2003 after 25 years of Military service. Mr. Scharfen received his bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia, his JD from the University of Notre Dame, and his LLM from the University of San Diego.

The President intends to designate F. Chase Hutto III, of Michigan, to be Acting Assistant Secretary of Energy (International Affairs and Domestic Policy).
