Safe, Healthy and Ready to Succeed (PDF)
By Irene Jacobs , Ed.
2006

Summary: This plan presents key performance indicators for Arizona school readiness. The plan provides a baseline set of 16 performance indicators by which to measure the shared outcomes of Arizona’s system of school readiness support. Key performance indicators are described for School Readiness Outcomes, Ready Families, Ready Programs and Schools, and Ready Teachers. The performance indicators include: Early Literacy; School Age Reading Ability; Parent Education Level; Healthy Prenatal Care; Well-Child Check Ups; Immunizations; Children Ages Birth to Five Years Without Health Insurance; Licensing; Accreditation; Early Childhood Block Grant Program; Head Start/Early Head Start Enrollment; Voluntary, State-Funded, Full-Day Kindergarten; Cost of Child Care; Early Childhood Education Teacher Credentials; Early Childhood Education Teacher Turnover; and Early Childhood Education Teacher Compensation. Strategies to ensure that children begin the first grade safe, healthy, and ready to succeed are contingent upon the full engagement of communities. This plan can help inform the efforts of other State and local governments, partnerships, coalitions, and organizations who are striving to measure their own progress toward improving early childhood education systems.
