Baltimore, MD (January 10, 2009) – Mayor Sheila Dixon was joined by city residents and fitness enthusiasts announced the kick-off of the “Fit Baltimore” health and fitness campaign. Participants in the announcement, held at the Upton Boxing Center in West Baltimore, shadow-boxed with personal trainers, met with nutritionists and learned about healthy living from health care professionals.
“Being healthy is not just about being physically fit but it is also about feeling good about yourself, being energized, and having the perseverance to face life challenges,” said Mayor Dixon. “For Baltimore City to be at its best, every resident must have the tools they need to realize their full potential. And it starts with good health.”
The “Fit Baltimore” campaign is part of Mayor Dixon’s vision for a cleaner, greener, healthier and safer Baltimore. It is a comprehensive initiative aimed at showing residents how to eliminate the barriers that prevent good health such as time constraints, money, information, motivation, access to fitness centers and childcare.
