Description of Session:
The Connection Between Housing and Health: The Current State of Evidence There is considerable epidemiologic evidence regarding both environmental exposures and social factors linking housing and health. However, the evidence of positive health impacts after housing improvements is more limited. Quantification of health effects of housing improvements is complicated because of many confounding variables, such as socioeconomic status and other environmental pollutants (WHO, 2005). This panel will present the latest findings regarding the connection between housing and health and available data regarding housing treatments that are known to impact public health. Findings from the HUD Healthy Homes Grant Program and the results of a World Health Organization meeting held in Bonn, Germany in November 2005 will be presented.
