Cooperative
Projects
The interests of the Midwest Archeological Center extend
beyond the NPS boundary. Many projects completed by MWAC staff
involve partnerships with private agencies, wherein archeologists
might spend leave time to pursue research interests or help
in educational activities.
On the other hand, a large portion of MWAC activity centers
on partnerships with other federal agencies. Since 1969 this
office has assisted agencies including the US Fish and Wildlife
Service and the US Army with their cultural resource management
needs, and organized a formal division to do so in 1992. The
Program for Archeological Assistance and Partnerships has
helped with needs ranging from archeological evaluation, documentation
and mitigation, to the production of popular media. This program
also oftentimes calls on the expertise of certain college
and university faculty. The interaction of professionals from
various agencies has proven highly rewarding, allowing MWAC
to most effectively work towards the conservation of archeological
resources.
