Use
and Interpretation of the CDC Growth Charts - An
Instructional Guide (PDF
- 67K)
This guide instructs health care providers on how to use and interpret the
CDC Growth Charts to assess physical growth in children and adolescents.
Using these charts, health care providers can compare growth in infants,
children, and adolescents with a nationally representative reference based
on children of all ages and racial or ethnic groups. Comparing body
measurements with the appropriate age- and gender-specific growth chart
enables health care providers to monitor growth and identify potential
health- or nutrition-related problems.
Tools to Calculate BMI
BMI
Percentile Calculator for Child and Teen

National Center for Health Statistics has growth charts in several
formats, or use the following documents:
- CDC Table for Calculated Body Mass Index Values for Selected Heights and Weights for Ages 2 to 20 Years (PDF-168K)
- Checkbook size BMI Table for Children and Adolescents(PDF-404K)
Software Tools
ANTHRO
This is a software application for calculating pediatric anthropometry,
based on the 1978 NCHS/CDC/WHO growth reference.
Epi Info
This is a software application that offers a word processing,
database, and statistics system for epidemiology on microcomputers.
One of the key features of Epi Info 2002 is NutStat, a nutrition
anthropometry program that calculates percentiles and z-scores using
either the 2000 CDC or the 1978 CDC/WHO growth reference.
A SAS Program for the CDC Growth Charts
The purpose of this SAS program is to easily generate a dataset that
contains indices of the anthropometric status of children from birth to 20
years of age based on the 2000 CDC growth charts.
