Background: Since 2000, Nebraska Department of Public Health has
been funded as a standard project.
Lifestyle Intervention: Nebraska offers women a choice between a
4—week community–based intervention called ABCs for Good Health
that is delivered by university extension educators and a self–study
called Be a WISEWOMAN—Get Heart Smart! Participants also receive
six monthly telephone calls to assist them with goal setting and
assessment.
Screening: Risk factor screening includes blood pressure, glucose,
cholesterol and other lipids testing as well as assessing weight, medical
history, tobacco use, poor diet, and physical inactivity.
Sites: Nebraska contracts with more than 600 providers to offer Breast
and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program services. These providers also
offer WISEWOMAN screening and refer women to the health promoting
lifestyle interventions.
Key Partners: University of Nebraska Medical Centers, College of
Pharmacy, American Heart Association, and University Extension.
