The Cultural Resources Diversity Program lists the websites of and contacts for other organizations that offer internship programs or that provide information on internships and summer employment in historic preservation, cultural resources, and related work.

American Association for State and Local History: The AASLH Career Center hosts a job board that is accessible to members and non-members. Users can find new job postings and post their resumes.

Atlanta History Center: The Atlanta History Center/Museum Fellows Program includes paid internships as well as graduate studies in museum studies and museum education.

Bureau of Land Management Archeology-Curation Internships: The Billings Curation Center in Montana offers internship positions for archeological curation assistants. Reimbursement for meals and lodging will be provided. For detailed descriptions of the internship and its requirements contact the Center at 406/896-5213 or email bcc_BIFO@blm.gov.

Camp Whitcomb/Mason Archeology Education Internships: Camp Whitcomb/Mason in Hartland, WI, is a nonprofit organization working to educate the public about archeology through environmental and outdoor education. Interns assist with education programs that interpret archeological and historical information to school children grades 4-8. Internships are available from April to early June and September to early December and during the summer. Center for Contemporary History and Policy: The Chemical Heritage Foundation, located in Philadelphia, offers a paid internship in the summer 2006. CHF aims to preserve, promote, and cultivate interest in the history of the chemical and molecular sciences. The organization’s oral history program documents the chemical sciences and chemical process industries based on interviews with eminent scientists, entrepreneurs, and business leaders. The internship will expose the successful applicant to aspects of the oral history process while concentrating on a few specific projects. For more details, contact Ms. Rasheedah S. Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage: The Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage, located in Washington, DC, offers internships throughout the year. The deadline for summer internships is March 15; there are no deadlines for ongoing projects the rest of the year. Center of Southwest Studies: A core academic program of Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO, the Center of Southwest Studies offers Native American Honors Internships to Native American tribal members, including Native Hawaiians. The program offers professional internships and part-time student internships.

Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum: As part of its educational activities, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, MD, offers the Kerr Center for Chesapeake Studies Internships. Individuals working towards undergraduate or graduate degrees in museum studies, history, or related fields are invited to apply. Internships are for 10-13 weeks and the Museum provides a weekly stipend plus housing.

Dallas Heritage Village: The Dallas Heritage Village in Texas offers an 8-week paid internship in the summer 2006. The intern will work with the curator of education to enhance educational programs. Dumbarton House: The Federal-period historic house museum located in Washington, DC, is seeking qualified applicants for interns to assist on a variety of projects related to the collections, exhibitions, and educational programs of the museum. Embassy of the U.S., Lima, Peru: The Embassy of the U.S. in Lima, Peru promotes a museum internship program for American graduate students of museum studies and conservation programs to be held from July through August 2006. The program enables well-qualified graduate students the opportunity to do field researchin Peru and supports museums that house rich art collections, but are greatly in need of skilled professionals. Eleanor Roosevelt Human Rights Project: The Eleanor Roosevelt and Human Rights Project is a documentary editing project located on the Mount Vernon College campus of The George Washington University which collects, transcribes, and accessions material by and to Eleanor Roosevelt relating to her post White House political life. The Project is committed to offering interns a wide range of archival and editing experiences from xeroxing to searching repositories, from coding documents to assisting in web development. Everett Public Service: The Everett Public Service Internship Program provides summer internships in New york City and Washington, DC, at organizations and insitutions dedicated to improving the world we live in.

Federal Judicial History Office: The Federal Judiciary Center in Washington, DC, offers a paid internship for the summer 2006 during mid May-August. Responsibilities will include historical research and editorial work related to the Center’s judicial history education project and the compilation of judicial history reference works. Applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree, preferably in history, and enrollment in a graduate history program is desirable. Federal Programs: On the e-Scholar website, the Office of Personnel Management provides students information on different internship, fellowship, and educational opportunities offered by Federal Government departments and agencies, or partnering organizations.

Franklin D. Roosevelt Library: Part of the National Archives' presidential library system, the Franklin D. Roosevelt Library is offering three paid internships for students in museum studies. The internships will begin in June 2005 and conclude at the end of ten weeks. Interns will be part of two inventory teams supervised by the Museum Registrar. Each team will inventory a discrete portion of the 30,000 object museum collection. This internship will provide each intern with hands-on experience in the creation and updating of collection records, use of collections management software, and object photography. Getty Center: Getty Multicultural Undergraduate Summer Internships Program offers internships at the Getty Center as well as other Los Angeles area organizations that include museums, visual arts organizations, and local art agencies. The next deadlines will be February 1, 2006, and March 1, 2006; guidelines and application forms for 2006 internships will be available on the website in December 2005. Graduate Internships at the Getty support full-time positions for students who intend to pursue careers in fields related to the visual arts. Completed application materials are due in the Grant Program office by December 15, 2005.

Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities: The HACU's National Internship Program (HNIP) offers competitive internships at federal agencies and private corporations to high-achieving Hispanic students.

Holocaust Memorial Foundation: The Holocaust Memorial Foundation of Illinois in Evanston seeks an intern to support the Collections Management and Core Exhibition preparation, primarily through collections management

Lower East Side Tenement Museum: The Lower East Side Tenement Museum in New York City is seeking an intern for the summer 2006, May- September. The intern will assist in the NYC ImMigrant Heritage Trail project, a web-based Trail featuring historic sites, museums, and cultural centers associated with the City's immigrant/migrant cultures. Martin Luther King, Jr., Papers Project: Working with the project’s research staff under the guidance of Stanford history professor and senior editor of the King Papers, Clayborne Carson, students work on an 8-week program of research on King and the modern African American freedom struggle. The summer fellowship program offers full time employment from mid-June through mid-August every year. The project provides single student, on-campus housing and a stipend. Mary Washington College: The Department of Historic Preservation provides job & internship listings in the field as well as links to other job listing sites.

Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission: The M-NCPPC Prince George's Planning Department located in Upper Marlboro, MD, is seeking an intern to assist in a project to rehabilitate and reuse a Rosenwald school. Museum Resource Board: Lists museum internships and other museum related resources.

National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education: The NAFEO internship program places students with participating federal agencies and a limited number of private corporations.

National Council on Public History: The NCPH Resources page provides internship listings and links to job postings in the field of public history.

National Trust for Historic Preservation: The Trust sponsors scholarships and internships to work on projects in historic preservation areas such as public policy, historic sites, law, community revitalization, and communication. The Emerging Preservation Leaders Scholarship Program offers financial assistance to community leaders and college students of diverse racial ethnic, and cultural backgorund to attend the Trust's annual conference.

New Mexico Office of the State Historian: The New Mexico Office of the
State Historian in Santa Fe, NM, provides internships based on
continuing projects of the office. Intern projects are in the areas of research and interpretation, educational programming and community outreach,
informational services, and heritage preservation. Internships can be
part-time or full-time, occur for 2 months or more, and may include a
stipend depending on the project. Current projects include the New
Mexico History Web Project; the Legacy of Letters Project; and the New

New York University: The History Department hosts the Margaret Sanger Papers Project which offers undergraduate and graduate students a limited number of internship positions. Interns can select from work on the Project's book edition or its electronic edition of Sanger's speeches and articles.

Organization of Chinese Americans: The OCA Internship Program provides work placements in the OCA national office in Washington, DC, in federal agencies, and on Capitol Hill. Various internships are offered in the summer, fall, winter and spring. The OCA also maintains a job bank and offers scholarships, click "Programs" for these options.

Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission: The Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission (PHMC) runs a Student Internship Program, which provides hands-on preprofessional training for graduate and undergraduate students interested in pursuing a career in public history. Internships occur in the fall, spring, or summer. Placements with a wide variety of agency programs, both in Harrisburg and around the state, are available. PreserveNet: PreserveNet provides a comprehensive database of reguarly updated internet resources and professional opportunities in the field of preservation. The PreserveNet employment page includes internships sponsored by NCPE (National Council for Preservation Education) as well as other opportunities.

Resources in Art History for Graduate Students: A website that includes a listing of internships available at museums and galleries.

Smithsonian Institution: The Office of Fellowships and Internships provides information and applications for the variety of internships available across the institution in and near Washington, DC, including programs aiming to increase the participation of underrepresented minorities in scholarly programs, research, and the museum field. Application deadlines vary. The Museum of American History offers positions in a variety of projects, including research, collections-based, education and outreach, graphic design related, and management. In addition, the Smithsonian lists employment opportunities with the federal Office of Personnel Management.

Strawbery Banke Museum: The Strawbery Banke Museum in Portsmouth, NH, offers internships in several areas for the summer of 2006, including archeology, museum education, historic landscapes/horticulture, curation and collections management. Internships are awarded on a competitive basis. Internships may include housing, stipends, and field study opportunities. Applications are due February 24th, 2006. Student Conservation Association: The Student Conservation Association is an organization that places high school students, undergraduate and graduate students in internships for conservation service, cultural resources work, and urban-green spaces programs across the country.

Upstate History Alliance: The Upstate History Alliance, a museum service organization in Oneonta, NY, is seeking an intern for the summer 2006. The intern will assist to collect information and update the database for Word on Women, a project of the NYS Documentary Heritage Program, identifying archival collections relating to women's history, and to work with UHA's Director and Program Coordinator in planning and implementing various training opportunities. Upper level undergraduates or graduate students,

Worcester Art Museum: Each year, the Minority Internship Program offers two, eight-week paid internships during the summer to students in the Massachussets area. Interns will be exposed to the variety of careers available in an art museum by working with museum staff in each of the five major divisions of the museum (Education, Curatorial, Administration, Marketing, and Development).
