Using the Child Outcomes Summary Form (Power Point)
By Kathy Hebbeler, Robin Rooney, Donna Spiker
February 2007

Summary: This Microsoft PowerPoint discusses why it is important to collect child outcome data and how to use the Child Outcomes Summary Form. This is an age of accountability; the Office of Special Education Programs is under increasing pressure to produce outcome data on children participating in early intervention and early childhood special education programs. Data on outcomes are important for State and local purposes to document program effectiveness, improve programs, and better serve children and families. The following three child outcomes are desirable: (1) children have positive social-emotional skills, (2) children acquire and use knowledge and skills, and (3) children use appropriate behaviors to meet their needs.

Index Terms: Assessment, Assessment Tools, Data Collection, Early Childhood Intervention, Outcomes, Accountability, Policies, Child Outcomes Center Summary Form (COSF), Individuals With Disabilities Act (IDEA), Individuals With Disabilities Education Act Part B, Individuals With Disabilities Education Act Part C, Office Of Special Education Programs (OSEP)
