The BLM Yuma Field Office is in the preliminary stages of developing the La Posa Travel Management Plan and Environmental Assessment. The La Posa Travel Management Area surrounds Quartzsite, Arizona, and encompasses over 380,000 acres of public land in La Paz and Yuma Counties. The primary goal of the travel management plan is to officially designate over 1,700 miles of inventoried roads, trails, drivable desert washes, and other linear features as open, closed, or limited to public use.
Staff from the BLM Yuma Field Office and Arizona Game and Fish Department Region IV Office are currently in the process of developing alternative route networks for the La Posa Travel Management Area. One alternative route network will focus on maximizing motorized access, one alternative route network will focus on protecting natural and cultural resources, and one alternative route network will be a compromise between the first two. All specific route designation proposals that were identified in public comments received between January 16 and March 31, 2008 will be included in at least one of the alternative route networks.
Maps of the three alternative route networks for the La Posa Travel Management Plan will be posted on this website in late summer 2008. Soon afterwards, the La Posa Travel Management Plan and Environmental Assessment will be released to provide another opportunity for public review and comment. This website will continually be updated as the travel management plan progresses, or you can contact the BLM Yuma Field Office to be placed on the e-mail and/or mailing list to receive updates as they become available.
