A seagull flies over the California Coastal National Monument which stretches along the entire coast of California and extends 12 miles into the Pacific Ocean.  The Monument includes 20,000 rocks, islands, pinnacles and reefs.

Environmental Education Area

Photo: Hiker rests on trailside bench.Little Darby Environmental Education Area is ideally suited for individuals or small groups who wish to observe some of nature's ecological communities.  The area has 1.5 miles of self-guided nature trails which wind through a broad spectrum of ecosystems, from creekside riparian to fir forest to chaparral brushland.  BLM's Ukiah Field Office will provide, on request, a trail guide/study booklet designed to assist with your educational journey.  Additionally, this area makes a perfect spot for an afternoon picnic, or just a casual stroll in the woods.

To get there:  From Willits, CA drive east on Commercial Street, which becomes Hearst-Willits Road (County Road 306) 3.2 miles. Continue east on Canyon Road (County road 308) 3.3 miles to the Little Darby parking area.
