Environmental Health Services Listserv Directives and Protocol

    This quick reference to the Environmental Health Listserv has the instructions and commands (grouped in the following headings) to help you set up your subscription to send and receive messages to your specifications.

    Here is an alphabetized reference list with guidelines on usage:

    Message Acknowledgments
    To have your entire message sent back to you whenever you send a message, send the following e-mail one time:

    To: listserv@listserv.cdc.gov
    Subject: (leave blank)
    Message: set env-health-general repro

    To have an acknowledgment of your message sent back to you, send the following e-mail one time:
    To: listserv@listserv.cdc.gov
    Subject: (leave blank)
    Message: set env-health-general ack norepro

    To have no acknowledgments and no messages sent back to you, send the following e-mail one time [this is the default setting]:

    To: listserv@listserv.cdc.gov
    Subject: (leave blank)
    Message: set env-health-general noack norepro

    Listserv Addresses
    Once you have subscribed to the Listserv and want to e-mail messages,
    questions, or requests to Listserv members, send your e-mails to
    ENV-HEALTH-GENERAL@LISTSERV.CDC.GOV (Master List address).

    Never send a command to the Master List address because your command will be distributed to all Listserv subscribers.

    All commands should be sent to LISTSERV@LISTSERV.CDC.GOV (List Command address).

    It is very important for Listserv subscribers to understand the difference between these two Listserv addresses. If you have questions, send us an e-mail: ehsb@cdc.gov.

    Archived Messages and Past Discussions
    Messages, questions, etc., sent to the Listserv are automatically archived.
    To request a list of archived messages, send the following e-mail:

    To: listserv@listserv.cdc.gov
    Subject: (leave blank)
    Message: index env-health-general

    To request specific archived message, send the following e-mail:

    To: listserv@listserv.cdc.gov
    Subject: (leave blank)
    Message: get env-health-general logxxxx
    To use Listerv's database search capabilities, send the following e-mail:

    To: listserv@listserv.cdc.gov
    Subject: (leave blank)
    Message: info database

    Digest Version Command
    If you wish to receive a digest version of postings [several postings in one message], send the following e-mail:

    To: listserv@listserv.cdc.gov
    Subject: (leave blank)
    Message: set env-health-general digest

    Individual E-mails
    If you wish to reply to an individual privately, use his or her personal e-mail address. Any messages sent to the Listserv will be available to everyone subscribed.

    To find out what query your subscription options are, send the following e-mail:

    Review Command
    To learn the e-mail name and address of everyone who is subscribed to the Listserv, send the following e-mail:

    To keep your e-mail name and address private (not available via the review command), send the following e-mail:

    To: listserv@listserv.cdc.gov
    Subject: (leave blank)
    Message: set env-health-general conceal

    Search Command
    To search a keyword or past subject discussion in the archives, send the following e-mail:

    To: listserv@listserv.cdc.gov
    Subject: (leave blank)
    Message: search env-health-general (example: hand washing protocol)

    Sending Messages
    To send a message to all subscribers of the Listserv, send an e-mail to env-health-general@listserv.cdc.gov (Master List address)

    Never send a command to the Master List address because your command will be distributed to all Listserv subscribers.

    To send a command to the the Listserv, send an e-mail to listserv@listserv.cdc.gov (List Command address)
