This HuGENet™ Network of Networks workshop reviewed progress on the HuGENet™ Roadmap for human genome epidemiology. Participants discussed approaches for developing the knowledge base on genetic variation and human health, focusing on “field synopses” that summarize genetic associations with specific diseases and a proposal for an online encyclopedia.

Key themes and discussion topics:  

1. Interim Cumulative evidence on genetic associations: applying interim “Venice criteria”
2. Field synopses: reviewing results of pilot studies  
3. Genome-wide association studies: integrating evidence into field synopses
4. Distributed online knowledge base: connecting the dots
5. Linking field synopses with data collections through networks and biobanks
