Texarkana, TX -- Texans who have already applied for disaster assistance and require additional information about available programs or wish to check the status of their applications can call the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Helpline toll--free.
The Helpline number is 1--800--525--0321. For the hearing impaired, the TTY number is 1--800--462--7585.
A. David Rodham FEMA's Federal Coordinating Officer, said that people can learn about grants to meet serious needs, low--interest loans, and disaster housing programs. "You probably can get answers to your questions directly from the Helpline," he said, "but if not, Helpline personnel can refer you to the agency or organization that has the information."
Applicants were reminded to notify FEMA of any change in where they can be reached. "Use the Helpline to keep FEMA informed of your whereabouts," said Richard Boltz, State Coordinating Officer. "Report any change of address or telephone number immediately."
"You can also use the number to check on the status of your claim," he added.
People who have damage related to the severe winter storms during the period Dec. 12 to Jan. 15, and who have not yet applied for disaster assistance, should call the toll--free FEMA registration number at 1--800--462--9029 (for the hearing impaired, 1--800--462--7585.)
Hours of operation of both the Helpline and the registration numbers are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., CST, seven days a week.
