Carnegie Classification An institutional classification coding structure developed by the Andrew W. Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. The 2000 Carnegie Classification categorizes selected institutions as:
  • Doctoral/Research Universities—Extensive
  • Doctoral/Research Universities-Intensive
  • Master's Colleges and Universities I
  • Master's Colleges and Universities II
  • Baccalaureate Colleges—Liberal Arts
  • Baccalaureate Colleges—General
  • Baccalaureate/Associate's Colleges
  • Associate's Colleges
  • Specialized Institutions:
    • Theological seminaries and other specialized faith-related institutions
