Healthy KidsThe Palau Ministry of Education (MoE) receives funding from CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health to provide HIV prevention education and conduct the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS). DASH funding enables the MoE to address HIV prevention by providing professional development for school staff and peer education training for students.

Republic of Palau's Program In Action

Providing HIV Prevention Education

  • Providing professional development for classroom teachers to increase their knowledge and skills regarding the teaching of HIV prevention education.
     
  • Supporting a cadre of peer educators who provide education in HIV prevention to their peers in grades 6−12.
     
  • Hosting a Student Partnership Conference to enhance strategies in teaching about HIV prevention for peer educators.

Conducting the Youth Risk Behavior Survey

  • Disseminating the results of the YRBS to schools, school leadership, and interagency partners.
     
  • Using YRBS results to identify and improve programs, policies, services, and resources for addressing HIV prevention education for Palau’s young people.
