Healthy KidLouisiana receives funding from CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health to provide HIV prevention education and conduct the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS). With DASH funding, Louisiana seeks to strengthen partnerships with key stakeholders involved in HIV prevention education and implement strategies to address the needs of Louisiana youth disproportionately affected by HIV infection.

Louisiana's Program In Action

Providing HIV Prevention Education

  • Sponsoring Louisiana’s Annual HIV/AIDS Program Conference.

  • Collaborating with key stakeholders involved in HIV prevention across the state to strengthen partnerships and enhance HIV prevention program planning.

  • Implementing strategies to address the needs of subpopulations disproportionately affected by HIV infection, especially communities of color.

Conducting the Youth Risk Behavior Survey

  • Working with the Louisiana Office of Public Health to coordinate youth surveys to improve data quality and reduce the survey burden on schools.

  • Conducting a promotional campaign for school principals, local education agency superintendents, and health coordinators in each school district in the state on the importance of the YRBS survey and the data it provides.

  • Providing technical assistance with school districts on program planning and policy development.
