Healthy KidsThe Alaska Department of Education and Early Development receives funding from CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health to provide HIV prevention education and conduct the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS). The funded programs are developed and delivered in collaboration with the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services.

Alaska's Program In Action

Providing HIV Prevention Education
  • Developing and disseminating scientifically accurate eLearning modules on HIV prevention education to K−12 educators across the state.
     
  • Providing professional development and technical assistance on the use of Health Education Standards and Assessments.
     
  • Using data from the School Health Profiles Survey to inform policy and program improvements.

Conducting the Youth Risk Behavior Survey

  • Administering the YRBS to collect data representative of Alaska youth in grades 9−12 through a collaborative effort between the Alaska Department of Education & Early Development and the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services.
     
  • Developing and disseminating the results of the YRBS to statewide agencies, school districts, legislators, other stakeholders, and the public.
     
  • Using YRBS data to improve statewide programmatic efforts.
