This live interactive program will describe the how, what, and why of collecting time-study data during Point of Dispensing (POD) exercises. During POD exercises, patients should be monitored to determine not only the total amount of time it takes them to go through the POD, but also the amount of time spent at each station and the time to move from one station to another in the POD. Collecting this type of timed data will allow state and local Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) Planners to more accurately determine the throughput at their PODs as well as identify processes that may result in bottlenecks. This broadcast will provide an overview of time-study methodology, discuss ways to collect time-study data, and suggest how the data collected can be used to identify specific problems in POD flow. Panelists will also briefly discuss computer models that may assist SNS planners in their efforts to improve and refine their large-scale dispensing plans. These computer models will be discussed in depth in a broadcast scheduled for November 2, 2006. A question and answer session will enable participants nationwide to pose questions to panelists.
Goal
To prepare participants to collect timed data from Point of Dispensing (POD) exercises.

Objectives
At the completion of this broadcast, participants will be able to:
  • Describe two methods for collecting time-study data at a POD exercise
  • Demonstrate how time-study data from POD exercises can be used to evaluate POD throughput
  • Apply effective time-study data collection techniques to POD exercises
  • Describe how time-study data can be used to identify problems in POD flow or POD operations
Target Audience
This broadcast is designed for the state and local Strategic National Stockpile planners.
