Conferences
The ninth annual joint meeting of the Association of State and Territorial
Dental Directors (ASTDD) and the American Association of Public Health Dentistry
(AAPHD) will be held April 28� at the Hilton Hotel Downtown, in Miami,
Florida. Cosponsoring the conference with ASTDD and AAPHD are the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention and the Health Resources and Services Administration.
Conference plenary sessions will focus on including oral health in plans
to increase access to health care; the role of health philanthropy; and
evidenced-based guidelines for dental sealant placement in clinical and
school-based settings. Other sessions will address issues that include dental
public health infrastructure, oral health literacy, oral health promotion for
older adults, fluoride and community water fluoridation, approaches for decay
prevention in the primary teeth, nutrition and oral health, and partnership
development to promote oral health in children with special care needs.
The conference is designed for dentists, dental hygienists, public health
officials, Medicaid/SCHIP dental representatives, state/territorial dental
directors, county/city/local dental directors, community health center
personnel, health researchers, dental or health educators, legislators,
students, dental suppliers, and dental insurance company staff.
