Our educational outreach program works with an extensive network of teachers across the country to bring the Library's collections to life in the classroom.

We develop online lesson plans using primary source material, support curriculum goals, host workshops and symposia, and we offer an online reference desk for educators. In addition, we visit schools across the country and attend major conferences to show how our resources can be interpreted for the classroom as well as for the scholar.

The Learning Page and Today in History Web sites are designed to help educators use the American Memory Collections to teach history and culture. The Learning Page offers lesson plans, activities, keys to the American Memory collections, online chats and other features specifically for K-12 teachers and their students.

The Adventure of the American Mind (AAM) program was created by Congress and implemented by the Library of Congress with the Educational and Research Consortium of the Western Carolinas to bring the riches of the Library’s online collections to students in the classroom by providing educators with the tools and training to integrate electronic primary sources into their teachings. In 2003, the program grew to include a total of 17 partners in five states.
