The Exchange and Gift Program

The New Delhi Office acquires library materials for the Library of Congress from the following countries of South Asia:
  • Bangladesh
  • Bhutan
  • Burma (Myanmar)
  • China (for Tibetan publications only)
  • India
  • The Maldives
  • Nepal
  • Sri Lanka

Institutional publishers located in the countries named above can choose to donate or exchange their publications with the New Delhi Office. The office offers in exchange library materials that are in excess of its needs (duplicates), and selected Library of Congress and U.S. Government publications. The office cannot supply specific titles, nor can it acquire commercial publications to use in exchange. See Books Currently Available on Exchange.

Books received on exchange or as gifts by the New Delhi Office are reviewed prior to being included in the Library's collections. Only those titles which are not duplicates for the Library and that fall in the categories prescribed by the Collection Policy Statements of the Library of Congress are added to the Library's collections. Titles selected for the Library of Congress are cataloged by the New Delhi Office.

If your institution has a publishing program, is located in one of the countries listed above, and is interested in donating or exchanging publications with the Library of Congress, please contact the New Delhi Office.
