Hilary Knight
Author-artist Hilary Knight has illustrated more than 50 books, nine of which he also wrote. Besides books, his work has included note and greeting cards, children’s fashion advertising, illustrations for Cricket magazine, and record album covers and posters for Broadway musicals. His first published work appeared in Mademoiselle magazine, followed by drawings in House and Garden, Good Housekeeping and Gourmet magazines. He is more widely known for his illustrations of Eloise, the precocious hotel-dwelling child invented by Kay Thompson, the singer and vocal arranger at The Plaza Hotel. With the help of Knight, the two produced their first book, Eloise (1955), which sold more than 2 million copies. The most recent Eloise publication is Eloise: The Absolutely Essential 50th Anniversary Edition (Simon & Schuster, 2005). Mr. Knight lives in New York.
