Congenital Pulmonary Tuberculosis Associated with Maternal Cerebral Tuberculosis- Florida, 2002 (3/30/05)
http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm5410a3.htm
PDF (p. 249) PDF
http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/PDF/wk/mm5410.pdf
In 2002, congenital tuberculosis (TB), a rare disease with nonspecific signs and symptoms, was diagnosed in an infant in Florida. If untreated, congenital TB is fatal, which underscores the importance of suspecting congenital TB in newborns and infants who are at risk and who have unexplained febrile illnesses. This report summarizes the investigation of the case in Florida. Health-care practitioners should administer a tuberculin skin test to women who have risks for Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection and treat those who have latent TB infection to prevent maternal and congenital TB disease.

Tuberculosis Cases Among Exotic Dancers & Close Contacts-Kansas, 1994-2000
http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm5015a4.htm
PDF PDF
http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/PDF/wk/mm5015.pdf
During January 2001, the Wichita-Sedgwick County Department of Community Health, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, and CDC investigated a cluster of tuberculosis (TB) cases that occurred from 1994 to 2000 among women with a history of working as dancers in adult entertainment clubs (i.e., exotic dancers) and persons who were close contacts of exotic dancers. This report describes the results of the investigation and illustrates the need for early identification of TB clusters through ongoing surveillance and resources for health.
