Mine Safety Technologies Contracts and Grants Program

Back to The MINER Act of 2006 and Related NIOSH Activities

The new Mine Safety Technologies and Grants Program will be oriented toward R&D activities to develop new concepts and conduct experimental investigations of possible innovations. It will be administered by the NIOSH Office of Mine Safety and Health. The first appropriation is expected in FY07, and the program will launch with available funding. The grants portion will be a peer-reviewed competitive solicitation, patterned after the NIOSH Office of Extramural Programs existing Institute grants program, and will be primarily focused on university research. The contracts portion will be a peer-reviewed competitive solicitation using a Procurement and Grants Office RFP approach, and will be designed to produce specific deliverables. Additional information about the Mine Safety Technologies and Grants Program will be provided as it becomes available.

At this time, contract and grant opportunities are available through the separate Emergency Supplemental Appropriation, which targets technologies that could be commercially available for mine use within 24-36 months. A list of current Requests for Proposals under that program is available.
