Historic Haymarket's Farmers Market in Lincoln

This market is held in the Historic Haymarket District of Lincoln, listed on the National Register of Historic Places and visited by more than 5,000 people each Saturday. The Market is designed to promote and provide opportunities for Nebraska farmers to market high-quality produce directly to the consumer. In addition, the Market also offers an opportunity to local Nebraska-based bakers, artists and crafters to display and market their products directly. 179 vendors sell the products of their gardens, kitchens, and workshops. The year 2000 will be the 15th year that the market has been held. Excess produce is donated to feed the hungry of Lincoln through a program called Garden and Give. More than 3,000 pounds of food were donated from May to October of 1999.

Project documentation comprises a one-page report, 15 color photographs, brochures and newsletters on Historic Haymarket, brochures on the Farmers Market, newspaper articles, and a Nebraska Sustainable Agriculture Society newsletter.
