Fourth of July Ridgewood Parade
A day-long event featuring a flag-raising
ceremony at Village Hall, a parade with 2,500 participants and
more than 20,000 spectators, evening entertainment at Veterans
Field, and a fireworks display. This celebration originated in
1910 when local newspapers, the Women's Club, and the fire
department joined forces to encourage a "safe and sane"
holiday with an emphasis on patriotism. The project is
documented with a decade-by-decade history of the Ridgewood
celebration and 30 8 x 10 color photographs.
