International Festival of Lights

Attended by over 200,000 people, this six-week-long winter holiday event features more than one million sparkling lights illuminating greater Battle Creek. The Grand Lighting Ceremony and Holiday Parade initiate the festival each year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Numerous outdoor lighting displays with holiday themes from countries around the world are on view in the downtown area and at Binder Park Zoo. A downtown trolley tour takes visitors to these attractions. Nightly entertainment, including a laser light show, adds to the festivities. Held since 1991, the festival draws more than 200,000 people annually. It is documented in text, snapshots, a videotape, promotional materials, and an extensive collection of news clippings.
