Strawbery Banke

This ten-acre historic district of Portsmouth contains 42 buildings, some over 300 years old. With restored and furnished houses, interpretive exhibits and programs, it functions as an outdoor history museum. Community preservationists saved the buildings from demolition in 1958, when the district was threatened by an urban renewal project. As a result, a new organization was formed to promote preservation and awareness of local history.
