York County 250th Anniversary Celebration

This year-long celebration in 1999, marked 250 years of historic York County with songs, raised banners, newly published books, restored monuments, and planted trees. York County residents gave thanks for blessings bestowed on them, and commemorated former residents who had worked to build the county and the country. A rail trail was completed that connected York with Maryland, and a relay race ran through each municipality in York County. At the close of August's "peak week" of activities, 5,000 celebrants marched in the largest parade in the community's history.

Legacy documentation includes three volumes of York County history, prepared by the York County 250th Anniversary Commission; commemorative programs and brochures; an article and brochure about the 250th anniversary quilt; a bibliography of York County history in print; and three videos, including a musical.
