Known as IBE, this non-profit community service organization has as its mission the social and economic advancement of African-Americans. It hosts the largest African-American cultural event in the nation, Summer Celebration, and co-hosts Circle City Classic, the second largest African-American sporting event in the nation. It sponsors other programs and events year-round, such as its scholarship program and We Can Feed the Hungry. Founded in 1970 by religious and civic leaders, it is documented in historical text, photographs, a videotape of the 1997 Summer Celebration, and official publications.
