Spirit of Vincennes Rendezvous

A Revolutionary War battle re-enactment held annually on Memorial Day weekend. Participants include artisans, strolling musicians, and re-enactors portraying soldiers and camp followers. The event celebrates the capture of Fort Sackville by forces under Colonel George Rogers Clark in 1779. Period food served includes buffalo burgers, turkey legs, creek fried potatoes, and homemade pies. Once held on the commons where townspeople formerly grazed their livestock, it is now held on the French Commons located adjacent to the George Rogers Clark National Historic Park. The event attracts 400 to 500 re-enactors and an estimated 35,000 visitors. It is documented in a 13-page essay, two binders of photographs, a videotape of the Rendezvous, a poster, promotional materials and memorabilia, and a hard copy of the Rendezvous web site.
