Fort Ransom Sodbusters Association:
Pioneer Life
This organization documents the pioneer heritage of
the small town of Fort Ransom as demonstrated by two events: a
Fourth of July rodeo and Sodbuster Days, held twice yearly. The
rodeo is a second and third generation event. Sodbuster Days, a
two-day event held at Fort Ransom State Park, exhibits traditional
folk arts and crafts such as quilting, tatting, soap-making,
horse-farming methods and the making of traditional area foods such
as rommegrot, lefse. Founded in 1878, the town has survived far
from major transportation arteries and takes pride in its
preservation of these traditional skills.
