Oxford's Great Jack-o'-Lantern Fest
For eight nights in mid-October, thousands of
jack-o'-lanterns illuminate the trails and hillsides of Carbuncle
Pond Park in rural Oxford. Set among the pine trees, special
lighting enhances the spectacular carvings, which include
historical portraits and designs linked to musical themes. Each
year more than 20,000 people visit the display, which runs from
dark until 10 p.m. each night. The project contains more than 30
colorful photographs of the illuminated jack-o-lanterns, along with
background text that includes a folk tale about the origin of the
custom of carving pumpkins.
