Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park

The island is a microcosm of Ohio Valley history, ranging from prehistoric Indian settlements (9000 B.C.), to serving as a popular bootlegger's lair in the 1920s. Achieved national fame in 1806-1807 as the site of Aaron Burr's "conspiracy." Also famous at this time for the great Georgian mansion built upon it by Harmon and Margaret Blennerhassett, wealthy Irish exiles. The house was regarded as the largest and most beautiful house in the Ohio Valley.
