Juneteenth Celebration
This annual event commemorating the emancipation of
African-Americans features soul food, art exhibits, a pie bake-off,
and a quilting contest. It is held in observance of June 19, 1865,
known as "Juneteenth", the day the freedom message of President
Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation finally reached the slaves in
Texas.
