Juneteenth Celebration

This annual event commemorating the emancipation of African-Americans features soul food, art exhibits, a pie bake-off, and a quilting contest. It is held in observance of June 19, 1865, known as "Juneteenth", the day the freedom message of President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation finally reached the slaves in Texas.
