Lariat Loop Mountain Gateway Heritage Area

Since the 1850s, the Lariat Loop Mountain Gateway area has been a gateway to the Rockies, a recreational area, and, increasingly, a place where people live. In recent years, it has been overtaken by the rapidly expanding urban area. Yet the people who live and work in the Lariat Loop Mountain Gateway area are very conscious of their unique heritage, which is reflected in mountain parks and byways, historic structures, and close-knit communities. The grassroots effort that has created the Lariat Loop Mountain Gateway Heritage Area has a goal of preserving the area in the Rocky Mountain foothills west of Denver. Their efforts were rewarded in January 2000 when the Lariat Loop Mountain Gateway was designated an official Colorado Heritage Area.
