Keywords: "mid-oceanic ridge", submersible, organism, life

Our transcription: But even with these limitations, submersibles and remote cameras have provided a wealth of information about the sea floor.

Unique life forms thrive in the ocean environment from the deep sea floor to the shallow continental shelves.

Many organisms live suspended in the water throughout most or all of their lives.

Others inhabit the ocean floor burrowing into its soft sediment or scurrying across the silty bottom.

Life has been found in many unexpected places.

One of the most spectacular discoveries occurred when submersibles first explored the active volcanic region atop the mid-ocean ridges.
