Our transcription: Distributaries play a vital role in building and enlarging a delta, intermittently supplying new sediment to all parts of the delta's shore. The Mississippi River has built one of the largest deltas in the world. Nearly 40,000 square kilometers of land have been added to the State of Louisiana due to the astonishing power of the Mississippi River and its enormous amount of sediment. One million tons of silt, sand, and clay are added to the Mississippi delta each day giving the river its nickname, the "Big Muddy."
