Earned Income Tax Credit Resources

In 2006, more than 22 million workers claimed over $41 billion in Earned Income Credits (EIC). In 2008, the EIC is estimated to be worth as much as $4,716 for some families. Tax Credit Outreach Kits such as the one produced by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, contain materials to help you help low- and moderate-income workers take advantage of the tax benefits they have earned.
Marketing the EITC and other credits, and providing tax preparation assistance to low-income families is an important component of an effective AFI program. One way of addressing both needs is through outreach and community partnership. Through Stakeholder Partnerships, Education and Communication (SPEC), the IRS serves community partnerships and coalitions with organizations that serve low-income constituents; have good outreach and marketing capacity; have the ability to recruit, train and retain volunteers; and have linkages to asset-building strategies.
