The American Bibliography of Slavic and East European Studies (ABSEES) Online
The American Bibliography of Slavic and East European Studies
(ABSEES) has been compiled continuously since 1956 under
the auspices of the American Association for the Advancement of Slavic
Studies (AAASS) and with the support of the National Endowment for the
Humanities, the U.S. State Department's Title VIII program, and the International
Research and Exchanges Board (IREX). The bibliography is currently based
at the University Library of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. ABSEES covers
North American scholarship on East-Central and Eastern Europe and the
former Soviet Union, and includes citations for journal articles, books,
book chapters, book reviews, dissertations, government publications,
and more.
ABSEES Online is the online version of The American
Bibliography of Slavic and East European Studies. The period of coverage
is 1990 to the present; there is selective coverage of materials published
before 1990. It is updated monthly. Between 5,000 and 7,000 new records
are added each year. ABSEES Online can be searched by ten different
fields, including author, title, subject, date of publication, and publisher.
ABSEES Online forms part of a group of databases supplied by EBSCO and may be accessed from any public PC in the
Library of Congress. A reference librarian or other staff member can provide assistance for those
not familiar with this process.
NOTE: Access to ABSEES Online is by paid subscription only.
The Library of Congress is a subscriber and software at EBSCO is able to identify the origination of requests. It is not possible
to use the Library's subscription from another site.
