SPEAKER: Dr. Pamela Peeke
EVENT DATE: 08/02/2007
RUNNING TIME: 65 minutes

Have you indulged in too many hot dogs and ice cream cones this summer? Failed to carry out the well-meant exercise program? It might be time to heed the advice of Pamela Peeke, the medical doctor who recently published "Fit to Live: The Five-Point Plan to Be Lean, Strong and Fearless for Life." Peeke discussed her new book at the Library of Congress in a program sponsored by the Science, Technology and Business Division.
On her web site, Peeke says, "It was never about the numbers on a scale. It is about transforming your life." Her recent book helps readers tackle the "fat" in five areas: mental, nutritional, physical, financial and environmental.
Speaker Biography: Peeke, the author of the bestsellers "Body for Life for Women" and "Fight Fat After Forty," is an internationally recognized physician, scientist and expert in the fields of nutrition, metabolism, stress, fitness and integrative medicine. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) recently named her one of the leading female physicians in America. Dr. Pamela Peeke is chief medical correspondent for nutrition and fitness for the Discovery Health Channel and the doctor behind the National Body Challenge campaign and television series. Peeke earned a master's degree in public health, followed by a medical degree and training in internal medicine. After 10 years as a specialist in critical care and trauma, she received a Pew Foundation scholarship and was invited to pursue work in nutrition and stress at NIH. Peeke is also an assistant clinical professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She maintains a private practice in Bethesda and is the founder and president of the Peeke Performance Center there.
