Noted food writer Joan Nathan spoke about her latest book "The New American Cooking" in a program sponsored by the Science, Technology and Business Division. To complement her lecture, area chefs provided sample dishes. They were chef Cliff Wharton of TenPenh Restaurant, pastry chef Ann Amernick of Palena Restaurant and baker Mark Furstenberg of Bread Line.
Speaker Biography: Joan Nathan writes for The New York Times and other publications and is the author of numerous books, including "Jewish Cooking in America," which won the James Beard Award and the IACP/Julia Child Cookbook Award in 1994. "The New American Cooking" (Random House) recently won the James Beard Award in the Food of the Americas category and the International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP) Award for Cookbook of the Year in the American category. Nathan was guest curator of Food Culture USA at the 2005 Smithsonian Folklife Festival. She also hosted "Jewish Cooking in America with Joan Nathan," a PBS show based on her book of the same title.
