Event Date: March 19, 2004

On March 19, 2004, the Science, Technology and Business Division hosted a day of hands-on science experiments and activities for an audience of students, teachers, parents and LC staff. The event, cosponsored with the Department of Energy’s Office of Science, was designed to encourage greater numbers of students to pursue careers in math, science, technology and engineering and was one of many activities held across the country to celebrate Excellence in Science, Technology and Math Education (ESTME) Week.

The activities and experiments were guided by top science and math teachers spending the year in the Einstein Fellows Program administered by the Department of Energy. Experiments explored floatation and density, light, optics and the electromagnetic spectrum, Radio Astronomy Telescopes, physics, papermaking, graphing, structural design, energy, plasma, gases, soil layers and DNA.
