On March 19, 2004, the Science, Technology and Business Division hosted a day
of hands-on science experiments and activities for an audience of students, teachers,
parents and LC staff. The event, cosponsored with the Department of Energy’s Office
of Science, was designed to encourage greater numbers of students to pursue careers
in math, science, technology and engineering and was one of many activities held across
the country to celebrate Excellence in Science, Technology and Math Education (ESTME) Week.
The activities and experiments were guided by top science and math teachers spending the
year in the Einstein Fellows Program administered by the Department of Energy. Experiments
explored floatation and density, light, optics and the electromagnetic spectrum, Radio Astronomy
Telescopes, physics, papermaking, graphing, structural design, energy, plasma, gases,
soil layers and DNA.
Science and Technology Division
