Summary: |
Correspondence, clippings, book, article, lectures, and other papers of Pennell and his wife, Elizabeth Robins Pennell, relating to family affairs and to James McNeill Whistler. Includes 129 letters from Pennell to Leila Mechlin and about 200 letters from Charles Godfrey Leland to his niece, Mrs. Pennell. The Leland papers include family correspondence, journals (1892-1899), drafts of his writings, legends and letters of Indians, and memoranda, relating to religion, travels, and New England Indians. The Pennells' correspondents include Elmer Adler, J. M. Barrie, Paul Wayland Bartlett, Timothy Cole, Royal Cortissoz, Walter Crane, Charles Deschamps, Theodore Duret, Henri Fantin-Latour, Ford Madox Ford, Cass Gilbert, Edmund William Gosse, Charles Hanson, Childe Hassam, Henry James, Robert Underwood Johnson, John Lane, A.
